How It Works

How it works....if you want to buy a classic car or motorcycle from South Africa and you live on the other side of the world? It's not as daunting as you might think.

  • You tell us which classic car or motorcycle we have for sale that is of interest to you and we’ll arrange an independent inspection by a suitably qualified automotive or motorcycle engineer.
  • We supply you with a comprehensive written report, along with close up photographs of the car or motorcycle in question. Cost of this service is US$300 per motorcycle or US$500 per automobile.
  • Approximately 10 close up images are included in the report.
  • Please note that for your protection and information, these inspection forms are proper engineering reports and not ‘feel good’ sales bumph.
  • After we have sent you the report, if you want to go ahead with the purchase, we’ll negotiate with the seller on your behalf and then you pay us the agreed purchase and shipping price.
  • We then obtain the police clearance certificate that proves the car or motorcycle is not stolen or been used in any crime and all other relevant paperwork (included in the shipping price).
  • Then we wrap, strap and pack your dream classic, and ship it to you at your cost and by your choice of mode of transport.
  • Typically, to clear crate, wrap, strap and ship a motorcycle by sea from South Africa to the UK, Europe or USA currently costs between US$1000 - US$1200. A car usually costs between US$1500 - 2500.
  • You can either clear your shipment through customs yourself, or alternatively, we can recommend a clearing agent to do it for you.

However...
  • If you can't find what you want on this site, you tell us what sort of classic car or motorcycle you’d like to buy and if you wish, your budget. We’ll then locate a choice of suitable vehicles or machines, and send you a brief report with photographs of condition and details of anything else that comes in the package(s) and we then carry on as above.
  • If you prefer, we’ll find and help you buy your dream classic vehicle or motorcycle and plan a terrific itinerary for you. Then you fly out to South Africa and we’ll have your new purchase ready for you at the airport and off you go to enjoy the paradise of Southern Africa. When it’s time for you to go home, we’ll collect your vehicle from you at the airport and ship it home for you. If you just want to tour Southern Africa, we can also offer you both guided and unguided tours. Please visit the Tour Africa page for further details.
  • Unrestored classic vehicles or motorcycles such as are found on our unrestored vehicles for sale pages do not incur any inspection fees for the obvious reason.
How It Works With The Packing

Classic Motorcycles

  • It depends slightly on the exact bike, but typically we’ll remove and clean the fuel tank, drain all fluids, remove the wheels and possibly forks and handlebars and wrap, strap and pack the entire bike and any spares etc into as small a crate as possible and then deliver it along with a report of what you need to do to reassemble the bike to the shipping agent. When the bike arrives with you, all you have to do is follow the report to reassemble your new classic motorcycle. Please note that if shipped air freight, the battery will be removed and you'll need to install a new one when you take possession of your classic motorcycle.

Classic Cars

  • We drain the vehicle of fluids, disconnect the battery, wrap all susceptible parts, strap the vehicle securely into a container and then ship to your port of choice.
